Had them in Buckeye/Brush Creek for bombing runs late in the evening. I was recording Patterson frequencies, so I only heard them on 349.400 (shared by Buckeye Control/AMC common).

Anyone know if Selfridge has changed their base/ground/security frequencies recently. The old ones seem to have gone dark. Have they changed over to the new 380MHz TRS?

Thanks

They've certainly been spending lots of money lately. Old housing being demolished, Alert Shelters are gone, concrete being replaced all over. Wouldn't be surprised if they've upgraded their radios.

Any military activity in our area between 30-88MHz? I'm thinking with the A-10's around here there might be some, but I haven't checked yet.

I had Guard Copter 01674 (MI CH-47D) calling Ops on 41.850 FM, 04:01pm. 10-29-09.

I haven't heard the A-10's using FM yet. I wonder if they took out the FM radio when they put in the second UHF radio?

MOTOWN 2 (MI KC-135)
311.000 Quarterback Ops. Trying to get a parking spot after they land. Nobody is there to give them permission to park!

The Selfridge A-10s have been using 314.400 and 349.400 lately as their A/A primary while in the Ohio MOAs. I don't know enough about the radio setup in the A-10 to say whether they'd be on FM or not - but they were talking almost nonstop on UHF when I picked them up.

Selfridge air base

There is an awful lot of errors, obsolete, and missing data in the database for Selfridge Air Base.

What do all of you think about pooling your "known to be good" data into a single source, and updating the database? If you don't know how to submit the info, or just don't want to, I would be willing to do so, if you would forward your data to me.

What say you? :)

Thanks!

How often do you hear them in Ohio?

While at a train show today near Selfridge, I did a little searching after the show.

Possibly for security. My BC796 wasn't decoding very well. Might be time for a new GRE dig scanner!
380.4250 FM P25
387.0250 FM P25

391.1000 FM MTC ground, talking to vehicles moving around on the base.

Will have to try this during the week when it's a little more busy at MTC.

When up to the air gunery range at Camp Grayling yesterday.
Videos - Free File Hosting - USAupload.net
Here are some videos shot with my digital camera.
First time they shot the guns and when they did, I must admit I startled me a bit as it took me by surprise and by how loud it was hehe.
On 100-898 one you hear the tower guy the one on the left in the picture I took, say 'clear hot' essentially they were clear to engage the target. Range used 266.6 and the A10's used 314.4
At the end they came in and buzzed the tower. ;)

Pictures - http://www.usaupload.net/d/vvgfvpqpmal Got to talk to some of the personnel there and were even given their schedule for the month. Surprised to see even the B1B bombers go up there. Eventually we were invited up to the air gunnery range tower!
Had a couple A-10's come in to do practice with dropping bombs on a target and shooting with their Gatling guns.
Actually about a week and a half ago I heard a unique sound over my house, look out the back I see 2 A10's about 500 feet heading to MBS to refuel!
When we talked to them we confirmed that Black Talon is out of Alpena, the Hersey moa is used only if there is bad weather in the other moas.

Hey guys,

Been monitoring 8.992 here lately. I have noticed that from time to time that I would hear music being played. I just brushed it off as a distant station. This morning, the music is absolutely LOUD. It sounds like whale music or should I say an "alien" type of music. There are no words, no voices just music. This being a Military frequency is there something more going on here that we should know about???

ok i'll try to explain the best i can...I am just across the river, I just bought a house in the villages on the side of the treatment plant over here, i am trying to pcik up Selfridge AfB. Before at my old place on meadowbrook, I could pick up the ATIS but it was little staticy.. I moved closer and now i can't even pick up the ATIS at all, nothing but static, tried even with the ATT on, still nothing. It appears all Military freq are null, My setup is i have my discone setup just above the roof top, connected into a Nexxtech amp, I have tried swapping out amp and straight feeding in, but results are still the same. As for AM freq's it has improved greatly for cleveland artc and as well metro, i actually have to have to have the ATT on in order to get a clear reception. Just wondering what could be causing not too pick up selfridge. I was using the ATIS as a guide point to picking up selfridge. I was further away and was able to pick it up, now i move closer and get nothing.. I am using a BC 898t as for the coax for antenna i have LMR-400, as far as i could tell all connections are good, and coax has no splits or frays. On my pro-2096 i can pick macomb county's public saftey system no probs even sarnia fleetnet tower i can pick up. So just wondering if anyone else has any options i can try

Does it sound like this?

I bet it does. This is becoming the latest digital data mode for use with the military, especially MARS related activities ( no pun intended between the 'alien music' and MARS.. :) )

Hams are using this mode too, but not as heavily as the military has over the last couple of years.

No that is not it at all. It is music. No voice. It kinda reminds me of a horror movie type atmosphere. Then it goes to what sounds like whistling. It's really weird. I will use my iphone next time it happens and record it and see if I can post it here....
