A-10 radio's

I thought the A-10s had only UHF radios now - are there some left with VHF?

Took a little searching, but I found it. It's an AN/ARC-210 Talon radio system. Says it can do 30Mhz to 400Mhz. So the A-10's still have VHF capabillity.

Airborne Radios: Airborne Radios

On 02-17-10
I had DEMON 41 (MI A-10) on UHF ATC, then he requested VHF ATC.

Selfridge A-10's tend to use UHF more than VHF, but will use it when they need to. I'm still waiting for them to use Fox Mike (FM). The Low VHF band 30Mhz to 88Mhz.

Something for all the milair people when you have time is to get the milair wiki updated. Im not as up on the milair as you all are so I'll let you guys look at it and update:
Michigan MilAir Reference - The RadioReference Wiki

I.e.
One thing since the the change of Ft. Custer stuff has gone away I'm sure as listed are not used anymore and Selfridge picking up those A-10's as well.
The freqs located in the 380-400 band listed still as of yet. Understand those were reallocated to the feds.
Empty links: 185th Aviation? Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF)? Grand Ledge - 3/238th GSAB?
110th Fighter Wing listed as being still at Battle creek, 07th Fighter Squadron MIANG they moved out of Selfridge?

I did change the 'Military Aircraft Tail Codes' as it was a dead link and I found a website for that.
Added a link to the National Guard on the MPSCS under the heading- 'Michigan National Guard Talkgroups'

Toledo National Guard F-16 jets nearly hit Southeast Airlines flight over Ohio

CINCINNATI — 04/08/2010 An official with the Ohio National Guard says it appears two of its F-16 fighter jets were flying too high when they had a near miss with a commercial flight over southern Ohio.

The Guard’s vice chief of staff says the F-16s were on normal training flights on Thursday and it does appear they were above their ceiling. Officials are not sure how much above the ceiling they were but plan a full investigation.

FAA radar showed the F-16s were flying at 30,000 feet when they should have been no higher than 29,000 feet. An alarm went off in the cabin of the Atlantic Southeast Airlines 70-seat Canadair RJ-700 regional jet, the FAA said. But the pilots of Flight 5202 did not have to take evasive action and completed the Cleveland-to-Atlanta flight safely, Atlantic Southeast Airlines said.

“The crew had visible sight of F-16s,” Modolo said. “But the pilots were able to keep the plane on its assigned flight path.” Soon after the close call around 10 a.m. Thursday, the airline contacted the FAA, said FAA Great Lakes Region spokesman Tony Molinaro.

The FAA’s radar center in Indianapolis showed that the military planes, operated by members of the Ohio National Guard, were flying at 30,000 feet, Molinaro said. “We’ll have to look and see what happened,” Molinaro said. “The military will have to do the investigation.”

Pilots contacted controllers, who cleared them to climb to 36,000 feet as a precaution.

Are you picking up those C-21's all the way from the west side or are they flying on this side of the state?

I'm not sure where they are when I hear them. They could be on the west side of the state. I used to be able to hear the A-10's on Kalamazoo app. Normally I'm just hearing them call Ops with the normal 15, to 20 min out, & maint codes. I'm not catching them on ATC yet. That would help give me a basic idea where they might be.

Today was the first time I've heard 2 of them talking A/A. They were flying close enough to see each other. I don't know if they still have to practice formation flying with Learjets?

Something for all the milair people when you have time is to get the milair wiki updated. Im not as up on the milair as you all are so I'll let you guys look at it and update:
Michigan MilAir Reference - The RadioReference Wiki

Has anyone starting to work on the wiki and fix things up?

Also I heard reference to 'Ultra 55' is below me or something, any idea on that?

And Boson is that selfridge A-10's? Also Tejas,Yalta are those referring to the different air wings for the Selfridge A-10's?

I did change a few things on the Wiki a few days ago. Still more to update on it though. I was surprised to learn that anybody can change the info on the Wiki. Should we delete old freqs, or just move them somewhere else, & tag them as Old, or unknown? I don't want to delete a freq, & find out later it's still a good freq.

No idea on the Ultra 55?

Boson is Selfridge A-10's. (Bowsun, Bowsan, Bowson) The A-10's at Selfridge are only 1 Squadron. It's still the 127th Wing, & 107th FS. Only the F-16's were reasigned to other Squadrons (Mostly Fort Wayne, IN. FWA will transition to A-10's this year). The 107th Fighter Squadron is still at Selfridge. The only change was the A-10 aircraft. That needs to be fixed on the Wiki also.
Demon, & Yalta call signs seem to go to the range, & do some MOA work. Tejas usually does ACM or simulated Air 2 Ground work in Steelhead MOA. I thought Boson was a maint check ride, but now it looks like it's also a training call sign. So maybe HOWDY will show up again soon?
