webster, I think your better question is does Proscan fully support Location Based Scanning. You wouldn't use Proscan to 'control the scanner'; you program that using Proscan to talk to a GPS and your 996XT. Then the 996XT and your GPS controls which system(s) open and close depending on what coordinates and ranges you have programmed.

These wiki articles describe the concepts in much more detail;

Uniden Scanner GPS Features - The RadioReference Wiki

BCD996T Lat-Lon - The RadioReference Wiki

DRD DXG POI - The RadioReference Wiki

Also see a couple of refs in the 996XT Uniden wiki;

I'm looking to for it to control the scanner. GPS units for the scanner cost $$$ and I already have a USB GPS recvr. So if proscan had GPS and it worked with the USB GPS I have it could control the scanner. My plan was to put the scanner on the dash and put my laptop in the backseat with the GPS connected to it and the scanner.

AFAIK no software works that way. You would connect your GPS to the scanner and use ProScan to program your systems based on the locations as provided by the GPS. You would need a USB converter, no doubt, to connect your USB GPS to the 996XT.

What a great program! Been using it for several months non-stop.

Apologies if this has been discussed or mentioned. I was wondering why there is not time and date stamp in the Status Logging window under Web Server / ScanCast tab. It would seem to be useful to know when a disconnect occurs.

Just wondering...

Thanks for the compliment.

The Status Logging is time stamped. Click the "Status Logging Box Full Size" to view the time stamps.

I've thought the software was perfect many times, then Bob makes improvements...

And it is even more perfect.

I do thrive for perfection and want this rock solid. I don't mind spending extra time getting there.

Last few weeks I've been working on a suggestion that I thought would take a few days. Copy & Paste / Drag & Drop nodes across ProScan instances. I discovered a few problems with the import conversion that was written a few years ago so I decided to rewrite that. Today when testing the import conversion, I noticed a problem with the 386/330 changing system type VHF-to-UHF-to-Custom with the band plan so that got rewritten.

ProScan Version 4.4.7 Released

This release is essential if you are using Remote Scanner Over IP in the client mode. My host, HostGator had disabled a script used for the published servers list because it was causing a high load on the server.

There is a new button placed on the Remote Scanner Over IP client tab "Update" that will retrieve the current published servers list instead of automatically retrieving the list.

Version 4.4.7
=============

 • Fixed - Remote Scanner Over IP - Published Servers List stopped working because my host disabled a script due to high load on the server.
 • Fixed - Database - DMA scanners - Trunking Frequencies didn't show the dot in the Treeview.
Potential problems still to be resolved.
 • Possible blackberry audio problem with the Web Server and ScanCast - Testing
ProScan supports the BCD996XT, BCD396XT, BCT15X, BC346XT, BCD996T, BCD396T, BCT15, BR330T, BC796D, BC785D, BC780XLT, BC296D, and BC250D scanners.

I've been trying Proscan for the past few weeks with my primary use to log and record conventional frequencies and tones. The program has performed quite well, never locking up or crashing, however there are some things that make it difficult to use. In the recordings tabs, I can sort by whatever field I want, but is there some way to do a secondary sort? In a day I can receive over 10,000 transmissions, and when I sort them by frequency, it would be nice to have the received tones in order as well. It takes a long time to look through 10,000 transmissions when the received tones are all mixed up, even though the frequencies are in order. The ability to specify a primary and secondary sort field would be very useful. The frequencies I scan mostly have the tone as 'SEARCH'. I noticed that proscan does not split the recording into separate recordings when the tone changes. With tropo, there are layers of transmissions at times and proscan saves the transmission with the last tone received. Lastly, it would be nice to be able to save the tone as part of the filename.

Thinks for your comments and suggestions. I appreciate it.

Suggestions should be emailed to me separately in an easy to read format. That way I can find them easily and organize them. I also may send out email asking for more input. I also send out preview files when suggestions are emailed to me.

On the Non DMA scanners, there are complications with the tone decoding slow to detect and therefore the tone info arrives late from the scanner well after the recording has started.

I forgot to mention this before, but I had several channels programmed with a asterisk '*' in front of the name. I noticed that transmissions were logged, but the audio files were not saved. I would guess that '*' is an illegal character for a filename so it doesn't get saved. Other legal scanner characters such as '/' '<' '>' and '?' might also cause a problem.

You're right, the asterisk character is not filtered out and will cause problems. The other characters in red are filtered out so they will not be a problem. / \ : " < > ?

The next version will have the asterisk character filtered out. It should be ready in about two to three weeks.

I-Call Flag ?

New to the Scanning hobby. Just got my Uniden Bearcat BCT15X with ProScan v4.4.7 up and running. Using ProScan’s RadioReference web import feature I was easily able to program my BCT15X.

Question: For the Uniden Bearcat BCT15X scanner in ProScan v4.4.7 how do you set the I-Call Flag for EDACS and Motorola Talk Group IDs ?

Regards,
Retsaoc
