10 meters has been very active over the long weekend. 29.60 MHz has lots of simplex activity here in southeast Ohio. Hope this continues.

If you can find them, Motorola CDM 750s are newer than the MaxTracs and are really robust. The 4 channel version ought to cover you, but if not, the CDM 1250 will do the trick. I also highly recommend the Kenwood TK-690 series. Biggest issue is that bandsplit that covers 29.7 MHz. Probably the rarest one out there from any manufacturer. There were some GE MLS radios in the 29.7 to 42 MHz bandsplit on eBay recently but it can be hard to find someone who can program those units. Good radios, though. I own several of them.
The Waris low band mobiles have huge overheating and burning out final issues. i would avoid them

The maratrac is also good on low band you can also get a version that has a squelch knob.

If you want to try rock bound the the motorola mitrek had one of the best receivers ever

The 480 channel Asian Fishery Radio (27.500 MHz FM to 39.475 MHz FM, straight 25 kHz steps, sequential channel numbering), simplex FM voice and FSK data only, regular carrier squelch or CSQ - no CTCSS tone or DCS use - which is actually helpful in ruling out other possibilities when hearing Asian languages on frequencies that match that band plan, since carrier squelch is not used as often (for FM mode anyway) on lowband.

Yep, there are numerous exceptions I know, including my very own (locally used) Virginia State Police SIRS on 39.5400 MHz FM (but, 39.540 doesn’t match the band plan and is outside the 27.5 MHz - 39.475 MHz range.

According to the specifications for the FT-801 Dedicated Fisheries Radio / 480 Channel Fishing Boat Transceiver, voice inversion scrambling (probably rolling code inversion) is an option.

I checked 11m and VHF low first thing this morning as the sun was coming up - 31.750 MHz had POCSAG paging bursts on it (fading in and out).

UK on site hospital paging
31.725 MHz, 31.750 MHz, 31.775 MHz
plus general on-site paging
48.875 MHz - 49.475 MHz (12.5 kHz steps).

Italian pagers
40.0125 MHz
40.0375 MHz
40.0625 MHz
40.0875 MHz

Italian 43 MHz “VHF CB” license-free voice and data, 43.3000 MHz - 43.5875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps). Lots of data link/telemetry systems on these frequencies.

The 26 MHz paging, 27 MHz paging and 29 MHz paging frequencies (Europe wide and the UK) are likely very busy since 11m, 10m and 6m are all waking up (again!) today.

US and the rest of the Americas 27 MHz RCRS data/paging (license free, 4w power limit on all channels except 25w power limit on 27.255). 8 kHz bandwidth limit, any data mode permitted.

26.995 MHz
27.045 MHz
27.095 MHz
27.145 MHz
27.195 MHz
27.255 MHz - shared with CB Channel 23

a steady MFSK data signal and/or a rapid FSK burst on 26.995 and/or 27.195 seems to appear whenever the band is open to Latin America. Data bursts and paging (including POCSAG!) on 27.255 whenever the band is open.

French roadway frequencies highly active today. I set a custom scan from 34.9000-36.2000 12.5k steps and had over 80 freuqencies hit within that limit when I got home (using ProScan). Most were open carriers or too much static, but here are the ones confirmed by either voice and or polytones.

So you heard them over in New Jersey? Now that's great :)

School buses / vans in Hampden Co, MA heard here in Ireland yesterday on 35.32 - I've heard these many times during the last cycle but it still gets me that these are are on the other side of the Atlantic, and on this frequency - simplex (repeater is a regular on 31.12) Extremely good levels at times. The old licence says these are 110 watt mobiles. I'd love to see the antennas on the buses.

Actually they are running a 6 site low band repeater system. My friend does the tower work for them. they were bought out and may end up going to uhf, they operate low in and high out.

Here's one for anyone who fancies some detective work - 33.060 123hz tone, heard today - mentions of Bath Road and White road - sounds like municipal workers. To my ear they sound New England. I've searched and searched for the roads mentioned but not coming up with anything where one runs on to the other. Recording is here (any help would be great) - audio_33_0600_C123_0_ 33_0600MHz_162525.wav | Powered by Box

So in this log, there's a third mystery road. It says "Not the white road end, but the bath road end".
Bath Road, FYI, is Route 1 through a section of Maine.

Thanks for that Mike, I've found a possible candidate - south of Newcastle, ME close to route 1. Alas nothing listed in Maine on that frequency with the FCC. Will have to try to catch it again. Not one of my usuals. cand.JPG
