I wish I knew just what the audio quality was like, but setting up DSDPlus (and this is hard for people to imagine) is much easier than getting DSD-FME working, at least from my experience. The Florida Man did one hell of a job on DSD-FME though. He has to be given heeps of credit for refining it to the extent that he has. It supports lots of protocols and trunking, displays some data that you just don't see in DSDPlus that may be interesting to real geeks, and of course publicly supports some encryption types if you have the key. I can't knock it a bit.
In fact, this community as whole owes a ton to the original developer of DSD, those who improved upon it, and the authors of DSD-FME, DSDPlus, SDRTrunk, Unitrunker, the various apps and plugins for Tetra, OP25 and its rx.py and multi-rx.py, and all the useful tools for trunking all of the older protocols like Smartnet, LTR and EDACS in the past. I'm grateful for everything they all did. I do have my personal preferences, but I'd never put down any one of the authors or their productts because without anybody taking the initiative we wouldn't have the tools we have today.

Very well said, Mike. I agree with you. Personally, I haven't had much, if any, success setting up FME. I have heard it is a great program, but it's not my cup of tea.
I haven't used most of the programs listed. I use SDRTrunk, DSD+, and UT daily and on various machines. And to me, each of them serves a particular purpose. Yes, I can favor one program over the other, but each program has strengths and weaknesses. That's why I get upset when folks completely despise one program just because "the program is ****" and not give a reason why.
Sometimes, I can run all three programs simultaneously for different uses, and I do have my preferences and recommendations, but I mainly use SDR Trunk (with Trunking Recorder) to monitor systems 24/7 as a more permanent solution. I use UT to monitor system information like RIDs, TGs, and Sites. I use DSD+ mainly for discovering new things, monitoring DMR Systems, and, lately, capturing OTAs. Call me crazy, but I'm currently running SDRTrunk, UT, and DSD+ on the same system, all for its specific use case.
At the end of the day, all programs are helpful, serve a specific purpose for me, and are very feature-rich. But we have to keep in mind (even tho I sometimes may forget) that developers make these programs in their free time.
