Well I was comming back from lunch before noon and at first I saw the MPs were blocking off N Perimiter road near the end of rwy19, then I looked on the runway and there was a C-130 on its landing roll with a tail of emergency vehicles comming up behind it. The #2 engine wasnt rotating. Not sure if it was an exercise or not.

A soldier that had been killed in Afghanistan was flown in to Selfridge this morning. I heard a request for a police escort. It probably had something to do with that.

The STINGS are back in town and active in the Steelhead

Huntress to Judge 71 - Judge 71 escorted a "small plane" Rock 21 into the Traverse City Airport for practice. I believe they're gearing up for some possible trouble this summer.

Also, I saw a C-130 stop by Flint Bishop only to take off again and head toward MTC, around 11AM

Expect to see military planes fly by next week

Don't panic if you seen an unusual number of military planes in the air over the next week.
Navy F-18 jets will streak across the sky between Harrison Township and Grosse Pointe to show off
at this weekend's Jeep Chrysler Superstore APBA Gold Cup on the Detroit River in Belle Isle.
The F-18 Hornets are taking off from Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township.

And throughout the upcoming week, military jets and acrobatic planes will fly into Selfridge Air for the Selfridge Air Show, scheduled for July 21 to 22. That event is free.

I posted them in the Selfridge Airshow thread. I found it on the MT 07 Airshow page

Time for another BRAC update-
+The 171st is down to 2 C-130s. Soon they'll be gone for good.
+The 927th ARW picked up two KC-135s from the 940th ARW @ Beale AFB

Also, taxiway Foxtrot is being repaved. Does anyone know what happened to the idea of building a new Alert Shelter near the base of Rwy 1? I was wondering if that got cancelled due to the F-16s leaving.

I thought it was already built. I wonder if F-22s will ever come in.

They updated the old one on the north end after 9/11 but back before the 2005 airshow the Sterling Heights TV channel ran a advertisment show made by SANG which included a discription of base improvements, to include the construction of a new alert shelter on the south end.

Been watching this thread and it seems most of you are located near Selfridge. Can anyone provide me with frequencies I might hear activity on in Lansing?

Thanks

Hi Jim, here's a link to a coverage map I made for the Detroit area, it gives you some idea just how far away you can be from the action and still pick up the traffic. So as you can see from the Lansing area there's a lot of good military air space you can listen to. The most active would be the Pike and Steelhead MOAs and a few of the Air Refueling routes. Most of the frequencies shown in the past posts are good for your area too.

That is a good map! How often do mil flights in the area fly at or above 40,000 ft?
