The Feitong FT-801 and the IC-988B / IC-988

there are numerous others, including the CZ-97480 (480 channels, 25 kHz spacing, 27.5-39.5 MHz) -

This one is interesting, CZ-21000 - same 27.5MHz-39.5MHz coverage FM voice, but 30 watts RF power and switchable 25 kHz or 12.5 kHz spacing. The KND CZ-210000 radio (with the red LED channel display) offers either 480
channels or 1000 channels (I guess technically 960 channels? or 961 if 12.5 kHz spacing mode includes 39.4875 MHz as the highest channel instead of 39.475 MHz being

another one is the HT-700M Fishing Boat Dedicated FM Radiotelephone:

FBB4B01A-B720-41C8-9814-C33F81B3CA8A.png15E184A4-4886-4FC3-8AB8-09A112448780.jpeg4E7CE97B-E182-4E12-AA3F-2B7A40363378.jpegB7F46A05-0F18-4B0B-A1B6-B46FD4F29952.jpegFBB4B01A-B720-41C8-9814-C33F81B3CA8A.png

There are numerous other systems in use. The “marine CB” (which is a variant of the standard 6-band export radio 25.615 MHz - 28.305 MHz coverage) is apparently popular in Vietnam - 26.065 MHz - 28.755 MHz instead of 25.615 MHz - 28.305 MHz.

Other bands include 26.475 MHz - 30.500 MHz [standard 10 kHz CB-like steps, AM/FM or AM/FM/SSB] - others include 24.715 MHz - 30.105 MHz, and the 25.615 MHz - 30.105 MHz export coverage. Ranger (Malaysia) advertises radios covering the 26.065-28.755 MHz range as “marine CBs”.

The interesting thing is - these exact same radios are sold on the US market, except the frequency coverage is “down one band”. In other words, 25.615-28.305 MHz. So band D is the legal CB band (26.965-27.405 MHz). On these “marine CB” radios, band C is the legal CB band. I wonder why they bother to change this for different markets. It makes less sense to add another whole “band” (set of channels) that are entirely within the 10m amateur band to me. That 28.315-28.755 portion isn’t available on most US market export radios (unless the radio does the full 25615-30105 coverage).

Indeed. These aren't sold for the US market though. They're technically designed for the Chinese offshore fishery market, but have made their way into the Asian fishing fleets in general. From what I can tell, based on my loggings and what many other listeners have logged...the 25 kHz spacing 480 channel FM mode only 27.500 MHz to 39.475 MHz version is the version that is most widely used. That's 27.5MHz-39.5MHz FM Fishery Radiotelephone.

Channelization means that fishing fleets need to stick with one standard for backward compatibility with all radios in their fleet, so even if a radio with the 12.5 kHz option is installed, it is probably used in 25 kHz mode (480 channel mode). Since these radios simply show the channel number and not the frequency.

CH-001 is 27.5000 MHz FM [CSQ] and CH-480 is 39.4750 MHz FM [CSQ]. Straight sequence channels.

No CTCSS/DCS tone squelch in use, 16K0G3E / 16K0F3E emission for voice [regular phase modulation/FM voice] and 16K0G1D / 16K0F1D emissions for data transmission and selective calling [PSK data/FSK data] purposes.

But yes, none of these radios are designed for FCC Part 90 land mobile use. That includes the Chinese FM Fishery Radio (FM Fishing Boat Radio), the WTR-358 and WTR-388 Marine Double Side Band [DSB] Radiotelephone AM mode only radios (26.475 MHz to 27.275 MHz or 25.550 MHz to 30.495 MHz - I've seen other versions of these with very slightly different frequency coverage, instead of 30.495 MHz, its 30.500 MHz and instead of 27.275 MHz its 27.270 MHz), or the various "Marine CB Radio" or "Marine CB Radiotelephone" radios (26.065 MHz to 28.755 MHz, 24.265 MHz to 29.655 MHz, 25.615 MHz to 28.305 MHz and 25.615 MHz to 30.105 MHz - AM/FM modes or AM/FM/USB/LSB/CW modes. It would appear that the Marine CB Radios are really just export radios / CB radios with additional channels repackaged into ruggedized cases for marine environments.

CHP was booming in yesterday afternoon (approx. 4:30-5:00pm eastern time). 39MHz was very busy, but 42 MHz/44 MHz/45 MHz were very quiet. I also noticed that the YSD beacon on 36.6000 MHz FM was nowhere to be found, and SNOTEL was absent as well.

It still fascinates me how VHF low propagation will "focus" on one particular area (I know, skip zone!)

It might start to become more interesting today. It takes above 200 sfu to open up 30MHz -50 MHz for the good stuff. Solar flux final reading yesterday rose to 208 an may keep rising a bit more. I am already seeing MUF at 42MHz over southeast Asia.

Fire up your low VHF radios at dawn. We will have coffee and donuts to help wake you up!

Edit: VHF gets some SC25 love!101muf.jpg

A personal request , and this is not directed at any single person. Can we please stick to keeping this thread to DX logs. So many posts lately have been questions or information, that aren't actual DX logs. Those would be better served as being separate topics/posts/threads, etc. Thank you much in advance. (I am requesting for myself, and not in any way as a representative here. It's a request of mine)

I had 35.98 PL123.0 at 1800z today mentioned Angel Lucia (sp?). CHP on 39MHZ was busy at the time and I suspect this is also a CA business Superior Ready Mix in Escondido on 35.98 is still showing licensed.
