The skip started up this morning a 8am and was non-stop all day here in N Carolina. I was waiting for the tests at 6pm and the skip then faded. It came back strong around 7pm. I did catch something new for me. kkn50 had logged it previously as 43.300-Part 22 Auctioned Paging License. 43.240 sounded the same.

My first guess would be:

4. The Commission authorizes auditory assistance devices under both the Part 15 and the
Part 95 rules. Auditory assistance devices operating under the Part 15 rules are permitted in the
72.0-73.0 MHz, 74.6-74.8 MHz, and 75.2-76.0 MHz very high frequency (VHF) bands (72-76 MHz
bands).4 Section 15.3(a) defines an auditory assistance device as “[a]n intentional radiator used to
provide auditory assistance to a handicapped person or persons. Such a device may be used for auricular
training in an educational institution, for auditory assistance at places of public gatherings, such as a
church, theater, or auditorium, and to handicapped individuals, only, in other locations.”5

Maybe it is both? A 72/75 link inadvertently relaying an auditory assistance device base station?

My belief is it may be a link to an AM radio station that is the information station for a state or national park.

Just got back from Great Smoky Mountains NP & there were bear issues reported in and around the park during my stay.

Those mixed mode 3600 baud smartnet systems, had designator for control channels, analog FM, Securenet inbound and outbound (FRED Simulcast). And then if you had Moscad over the air, that was another. Then along came the CAI systems to add C4FM to the mix.
