I heard 2 mobiles at 4pm today on 39.54 chatting I was on interstate 81 #298 Mile marker just below interstate 66 might have been corrections in Front royal or 2 nearby state troopers both sounded equal quality almost full quieting they must have been close to each other i figure

33.900 in CT is used by Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications regional dispatch center aka "Station QV" They dispatch for several communities in the north eastern part of CT. 33.900 is the main fire / ems operations channel for VHF low-band, 33.800 is the dispatch channel (also used by Tolland County Network aka "Station TN"). QV also has a UHF system that is tied into the low-Band frequencies. More here: Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications

This is probably LADWP, too, given the tone and the licensing. Even though RRDB only lists one license, it appears on many LADWP high-power base licenses in the LA area*, some of which have a 5 in the calls: KCW538, KMG735, KNCN985, KQL501, KRT985. If you happened upon the channel and heard the tail end of the identifier as a 5, it could also be a 6 (if you heard just the last part of the initial dash, making it sound like a dot).

* Other channels on those licenses are 47.80, 47.86, 47.96, 48.08, 48.18, 48.20, 48.30, 48.36, 48.42, 48.52. The bold channels are on several licenses.

I love seeing all this low band stuff still in use, even if it tends to be centered in California. Where they get their radio equipment? Every manufacturer I know refuses to make VHF low band stuff any more.

Kenwood is making CHP's low band radios and will as long as are enough customers. I am surprised that the FCC hasn't forced California out of low band, since it is now mostly vacant of businesses and non-government users.

Caller must have consumed too many "edibles".

8/20/2022 14:23 Eastern - Heard a few snippets of conversation on 39.8800 FM, very weak and mostly inaudible except for mention of "debris at Deanville and Bentley" (assuming an intersection), and something about "Mobile station".

Radio Shack 20-424, with Hy-Gain SPT-500 Vertical at 35' and Mirage KP 1/6 receive amplifier.

I am also picking up 31.xx MHz Vietnamese traffic regularly. Can anyone elaborate on this? I am in Lake City Florida area. It is usually 31.100 Mhz.

Nothing heard here on 31.xxx. I did hear more traffic on 30.8400 which sounded "maritime" when I could understand what they were saying. It was about 99% unlistenable, down in the noise floor. One word I heard was "downbound", and the other "locks", so I'm assuming Great Lakes traffic.
