the reason why the lower end of the band opens up more is due to MUF Maximum useable frequency. the 30 megs section is just above HF so it opens up easier

I was hearing a lot of radio traffic from Rockingham, VT on 33.78, here in Richmond, TX. I couldn’t find any licenses in that area of Vermont, but found several for Cheshire Co, NH, which is right across the border.

Listening in my office to my Pro 197 scanner to 29.600 (antenna conical @ 20'), at 1:20PM 10/11/2022 and there was a fellow from Phoenix AZ (think the call was K7CQX) coming in full quieting. I'm in Ohio. 40-46-31.6 N 84-07-14.2 W (NAD 83). Impressive, but short opening. I believe he was talking to someone in New York at the time, which I couldn't hear that end of the conversation.

29.60 and 29.66 were banging over the weekend here in southeast Ohio. California was hot for a while and I even heard some Mexican stations at almost full quieting. Bearcat 210 scanner with a spider antenna 30 feet off the ground.

What kinds of antennas are you all using for low band VHF?

Have you read any of this thread, any of it, at all?

Recieved around 7-7:30 AM EST from East Central Ohio on an Antron 99@30ft and Uniden BCT15

First time checking out low band skip, recording on a BCD436HP with a cheap-o telescoping dipole haphazardly set up indoors.

I have a 1/4 6m antenna on my trailer i had the ft100d tuned up on 46.18 they use that up there.

July 2022 Richmond,TX Bearcat BCT8 scanner Sirio GPA 27-45 MHz ground plane antenna.

33.7800 (PL 77.0) is used by Southwest New Hampshire Mutual Aid, which dispatches all of Cheshire County, NH and several towns in Windham County, VT. (Including Rockingham)

Hi all, great to see this forum still going and logs being posted now that F2 is with us again. (Hi Sam in TX!)

Beginning to hear some transatlantic traffic here in the north of Ireland again. Signals not terribly strong so far but, early days. Should be plenty more to come.

Only other stuff coming in is the Turkish foresty traffic across 34 mhz in 12.5 khz steps nfm and the odd bit of Arabic MIL traffic here and there.

You guys in the US / CAN might also watch for the southern French roads traffic across 35 mhz in 12.5 khz steps nfm.

MUF getting to about 35 mhz each day here at the moment as far as I can see.

I recorded this in the summer of 2011 with the old Radio Shack Pro-51 using a center fed dipole made from Sound King 10AWG speaker wire and RG6 coax. KTL543 is near Marvin's location in Texas. Wonder if he has heard it locally.
