So far so good on the latest firmware install. Seems better on p25 for sure. My question is what is the purpose of the sub pcu? What does the sub pcu do that the main pcu doesn't or vise versa. Never understood that.

OK you Done good with this Beta as far as the New Jersey Interopt goes for me way up in the northern end of the state. I can now hear things I couldn't before and it all sounds good.
Thanks for the Update Upperman.

Noticing distant P25 Phase 1 towers have better reception but my local tower is somewhat garbled (choppy and cut off) like its being overpowered. Local tower reception was not like that with previous firmware.

Conventional seems about the same, maybe slighly better.

Definitely loving this scanner!

I have noticed a couple of things:

VHF high analog reception seems to be improved with this firmware release.

On P25 systems that have both phase 1 and phase 2 talkgroups, the phase 1 talkgroups seem to decode more readily and smoothly than the phase 2 talkgroups. It seems that the scanner will sometimes scan past any active phase 2 talkgroups and stop on, and decode, phase 1 talkgroups first.

From JamesO:

"I have choppy receive on some stronger signals in the -45 to -50 dBm range which I do not think are due to simulcast. Seems that maybe there needs to be some form of AGC that limits stronger signals from over driving the receive section of the radio. Never was able to get Uniden to comment on the AGC function of the 436/536 radios and I never felt the AGC on those radios actually worked or did anything. Subject was pretty much dropped."

This makes sense to me with the Columbus Police units, who often talk to0 loud and too close to the mic. Perhaps that's why the robot fire dispatcher sounds smooth and good vs the human operators. Has anyone else noticed garble with loud talkers?

Also, I just recently enabled the noise indicator. I know it's normal for the noise level to be all over the place, but up here in Dublin it's going from 40,000 to 9500 with everything in between. Has anyone else noticed a high and low with that range using this latest beta?

log file coming soon.

Upman, I attached a log file for my OFT issue. I'm still noticing a lot of stops on systems on the SDS that are not happening on the 436. When the SDS stops scanning it's usually showing all or most of the signal bars.

It's like the SDS has the receive power over the 436 to grab transmissions, but nothing is heard, and only lasts a few seconds. Just thought I would submit a log since nobody else seems to have this issue.

Again, most of these are not in the RR database.

Thanks...

Not good.

The latest firmware update has rendered my SDS100 100% useless. Instead of occasionally receiving traffic, the radio is now completely deaf, even though it shows 5 full bars of signal and a consistent -35dBm signal strength.

This is RADIOWIDE. Doesn't matter if it is the EDACS/ProVoice system, the Type 1 P25 800 system AND VHF..... I tuned to the local National Weather Service and it too shows 5 bars and -35dBm, however all the receiver plays is a rythmic kerchunking.

What now? Return to vendor?

Uniden? UPMan, what sayeth you?

Yes. Sometimes sounds like clipping/over-modulated with the LOUD talkers. And maybe it's coincidence but after this latest beta firmware, I've notice some people sounding way too quiet also. I think the AGC could definitely use some tweaking for the next firmware update.

Have you tried to re-apply the firmware update? And you did both, the Main and the Sub firmware updates? If that still fails, maybe revert to the latest public release and see.

What system is this happening on?

Ohio MARCS. 1. Talk groups are rapidly flashing on display with no traffic 2. RSSI goes from 101 to 45 without moving the radio 3. Voice is very garbled, which seems to be affected by how the user inputs their voice (too loud / too close to the mic).

After downloading this Firmware, I have seen improvement on the following Virginia systems I routinely monitor; STARS, Spotsylvania, Stafford, and Orange County (which is DMR). In fact, it is almost flawless. Thanks to Uniden and UPMAN for continuing to tweek the Firmware. I see that others still have some issues but I’m confident it will continue to improve.

This is RADIOWIDE.

Most likely, something didn't go right with the firmware update. Either you didn't update both firmware files (main, but not sub, or vice versa) or one of the files got corrupted during download or installation.

The only other possibility is that you have some really powerful RFI at your location that just happened to start around the same time you installed the update. To rule this out, go for a drive with your scanner, and see if the issue changes or goes away.

If you want to revert to the last release firmware, the last firmware files you loaded through Sentinel can be found in this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Uniden\BCDx36HP_Sentinel\Updater
