I need a little help. I live in Michigan City. Just bought the new scanner to pick up digital frequencies. To hear LaPorte County sheriff, ems, m.c. police, etc do I need to just add laporte county simulcast frequency or do I need to put in the talk groups for each department. Thanks in advance.
Which scanner did you get? You'll have to enter the control channel frequencies for the LaPorte County Simulcast site, then the talkgroups for whichever departments you are wanting to listen to.

I wonder what happened with Lake County on SAFE-T. When the new system went live in Lake I was picking it up fantastic, sounded great, no issues at all. Now just this past week or so all of sudden I am getting terrible LSM distortion on certain TG's at various times. It seems like it all started back when I started receiving LaPorte Co coming across Lake Co simulcast. At times it comes in fine, then it will be all distorted. When Lake first started I never had to Attenuate Lake Co, now I have to. Something seems to have changed recently for this to have started.

I am using my WS1080 for SAFE-T. Strange thing I moved the scanner a couple feet and it seems to be working a little better, but I will need to keep a eye on it for a while. I initially noticed this with my PSR 500 last week, it also worked fantastic until just about last week. I never used to pick up LaPorte Co until just recently.

site locked TG's?

Are the Safe-T MA TG's site locked, using only the nearest site? Automatically?
Are the Safe-T ISP ops TG's site locked also? Automatically set up to lock on to the nearest site?

Seems on the old Safe-T system, they were wider area.

Regional mutual aid are wide area. ISP district are wide area also.

All tg use nearest site affiliated to

Only a few tgs on the system are actually locked to one single site. Such as doc facility specific tg. Inleaa. Etc

Case in point.

I was listening to ISP op TG on Jasper co area (location of the ISP units) that has another site listed as a peer (Porter co) that I had the same TG parked.
Nothing heard on peer.

No unit was affiliated to that other site then. You only hear a tg on a site when a radio using it is affiliated to that site.

Jasper ain't simulcast

And porter ain't either yet.

So, I would have heard TG only if any other ISP unit was in the area (affiliated with stand alone Porter site) ?

Is this the same for units that are using MA tg?

If ISP was using MA, any other ISP unit would have to affiliate with Porter co site to hear on that tower?

Yup

Any tg. Whether swma 7, n ops 1, d12 ops 3..... Or whatever if no radio using it is not affiliated you will not hear it. Go to the wiki and read up on trunking basics etc.

Actually the MA talkgroups are different because most Dispatch Centers are parked on the MA's also... So for instance, Same traffic should be heard on any tower with-in that MA's area because your Dispatch's are affiliated to those TG's in that same wide area

No a radio can only affiliate with one site at a time. Also remember that simulcast counts as 1 site.

Look at uid not just tg. Each radio has unique id.

Or, he could live/be parked right on the edge of two different tower area's and just be on that fringe where his radio is picking up both towers about the same and you will see this happen also...wind blows, radios goes to Tower A, wind dies down then Tower B hears his radio better!
