I came here to see what was up

Summit has been off for about a week had to switch to valpo tower

Reprogrammed with laporte county simulcast still not hearing lowell or toll road ISP

The Michigan City tower is at PD and heard they had been having troubles with it since installed.

Anyone have suggestions? Idk if ISP is down or I have programming issues

Downloaded from database to ARC-XT

Took a drive by summit site, it is TXing CC with solid bars. Now tthat LSM is setup though, power from each tower seems to be lower.

I moved 996P2 to the window and now picking up LC Simulcast

Never had that problem with picking up Old Summit or valpo

might have to get an outside antenna

Simulcasts are completely different animals from stand alone sites. Especially P25 simulcasts. Look up multipath distortion and you will find lots of information on just how hard they can be on scanners.

Laporte co CC

The laporte co CC that is now in use when the simulcast was turned on, is full of static and noise. 858.7125 at the Summit site location.

Someone should notify motorola techs or radio techs about this, could be some of their struggles. Probably better if they put Control on one of the new 700mhz frequencies.

Anyone working for FD, PD, etc. in laporte county should pass the info on to someone in charge of radio equipment / communications.

Are you using scanner or actual P25 radio to know this? Trust me the Motorola and IPSC folks are on any actual issues if there are any.

Also remember that this is now 5 or more towers all broadcasting the exact same thing at the exact same time. That's what a simulcast is. So you may actually just be getting simulcast multipath distortion. Unless you literally are close enough to that one tower or have an yagi locked on it your going to get signals from all the other towers also.

P25 Phase 1 or 2?

Hello. I hope this is the right place to ask. I had a Scanner sales person tell me yesterday 8-24-17 that the Hoosier Project Safe T System is quickly going to move to P25 Phase 2.
Is this correct? or bad info?
Presently using a Radio Shack Pro106 to listen and it is only capable of P25 Phase 1.. Works great..

Thanks Jerry

Last I heard the switchover was scheduled for sometime in 2020, but the way the P25 changeover has progressed, I wouldn't hold my breath.

I suspect it will start with the ISP and some other "big" agencies. There is a lot of non-P.2 gear still in service and in some areas there might not be a perceived need for the additional "channels" that P.2 will make available.

Take that for what it's worth, i.e. what you paid to read it.

I'm going to wait and see...my primary scanner at home is a Pro-197 and I am hoping to get several more years out of it before having to switch to something different. I have a WS-1098, a couple of GRE800 types, and a BCD436hp. They all have their good points and bad but the old -197 kicks all of their butts on P25 P.1.

Speaking of IPSC techs fixing things, are there any provisions for adding extra voice channels? As it is right now, the local tower I listen to gets "overloaded" so to speak quite often. The alternate cc is used as a voice channel sometimes. I haven't seen a whole lot of denials yet but once Steuben county gets going it will be interesting to watch.

I can only imagine what it would look like in a multi-county emergency. I know DMR tier 3 has a queuing system built in, perhaps P25 does as well.

The old Mot2 system would, if you got a busy signal, eventually let your radio in when a frequency opened up. You would get the busy signal, then just wait and you would get a permit chirp. Then just key and speak. Haven't had it happen since the switch but I'd think the new system would do at least as much.

The acc is also an VC. That's usual in all sites. If it is not the active cc it gets used in the rotation with all the others. And not only is the possibility of more freqs there but phase II is coming soon. Anyone reading this thread besides the first 5 posts? We have addressed that a few times over the past year or so. The second phase of this upgrade will begin soon. It only requires a few keypresses to have sites ready for TDMA use. Full use by everyone is still a long way off but limited use will be over next 3 years

From the latest FCC database updates it looks like they are getting ready to take over a few Mishawaka towers and fold them into SafeT. So St. Joseph could have a 7 site simulcast soon? It looks like they may be adding 856.4375 to the frequency list as well. Not sure if I'm reading all this correctly so any confirmation is appreciated.

On a different note in regards to the Laport site. Should radios need to be touched with 700mhz control channels? Obviously the 800 is in there but if it goes to the alternate 700 I don't see how they will find it without any 700mhz cc's in the radio. Am I missing something here?

In theory, they could do an OTAP.
