I've also seen the message that the data for a RID was stale, whatever that means

If you have lowered the reacquisition rate into just a couple of days or less, it likely just means that it's reacquiring the OTA Alias to compare against what is in your DSDPlus.radios file to see if it has changed. If it has changed, it then gets sent to the server for decoding. Most of the time, the alias hasn't changed and so it doesn't send that to the server. I keep my reacquisition rate set low. But if somebody keeps theirs at 30, they won't often see the "stale" message -- they will only see it when a stored OTAalias in DSDPlus.radios has aged 30 days.

Well, I don't think it's "odd". I know the default is 30 days. But I doubt aliases would somehow change that often.

In general vehicle radios get changed out when there is an issue. Portables on the other hand that are out in the field getting dropped and or banged up can go in for repairs more often. Some agencies assign users a radio and others just grab a radio from the bank chargers. All agencies handle radios differently. On one system I monitor they are generally returned to the same user as I have identified some loaner radios. On other systems a cop radio today can be in a dpw truck next week. I see it all the time.

I want it to still acquire new aliases, just not ones that I already have.

You need to run a two receiver setup with a dedicated CC Monitor and VC Monitor for the "Acquire Using Alias Priority" feature to work. DSD+ will always prioritize new radios without an alias with this feature. The single receiver Combined VC/CC Monitor does not provide DSD+ with enough information for the radio priority features, so all it can do is randomly jump around hoping to acquire a new alias.

I had hoped that DSD+ would at least be able to handle radio lockouts, but that does not work with a single receiver setup.

Would you like to explain the difference between Alias Priority and non-prioriy, and how it allows you to focus on certain TGs rather than all? Saying it does it is one thing, but I'm sure others would like to know the details.

Okay, I thought after three posts all containing teasers you were ready to give classes to everyone, but instead you are just tossing out teases which don't help much. Sorry!

never claimed to be a guru, but it gets the conversation stimulated so we can learn how this awesome feature works

BS. I never run a dual dongle configuration and 1R DSD+ is merrily plucking aliases from newly seen radios. And it's doing it without tuning to every call, just to those where a radio with an unknown alias is in use. That's what alias priority does.

Yep, found out that one has to turn down the monitoring threshold below 50 for alias priority to work correctly with a 1R configuration. The DSD+ default monitoring threshold is 50, so it will monitor all talkgroups in its default configuration. Thank you explaining why I was wrong and how to make the corrections with your reply.

Ok what i have found so far, most of these you probably already know.

1. You can decode OTA Aliases with One SDR but its not as efficient as running 2 SDR's
I Currently use an RTL for the CC and my R2 for the VC

2. Alias Priority is a good start but its not efficient, it will land on talkgroups that look like its broadcasting an alias but no alias is in the radio or the list so it sits on useless talkgroups a lot

3. it is also possible to hold on a talkgroup or scan only certain talkgroups with Alias priority turned off and still acquire OTA Aliases.
im finding this helpful in in filling out an agency

Has anyone seen the decoding of the OTA alias from a group that is locked out in the DSDPLUS.groups file? DSD+FL still decodes these groups, but doesn't play the audio, so I was thinking it would decode the alias but I have not seen it yet and was wondering if anyone else has.
