Navy Helicopter Crashes in West Virginia Hurting 4
Thursday , February 18, 2010
The military says a Navy helicopter has crashed during a training exercise in a remote, hilly area of West Virginia, injuring at least four.

West Virginia Air National Guard Lt. Col. Harrison Gilliam (Gill UM) says the accident occurred about 20 miles south of Lewisburg about 2 p.m. Thursday. The helicopter was participating in a training exercise out of Fort Pickett in Virginia.
Gilliam says it wasn't clear how bad the injuries were or what caused the accident.

Boeing Returns E-4B National Airborne Operations Center Aircraft To Service
Fri, 19 Feb '10

Airborne Command Center Underwent 11 Months Maintenance
The Boeing Company delivered an E-4B National Airborne Operations Center aircraft to the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 8, after 11 months of maintenance at Boeing’s Wichita facility. The aircraft returns to service in support of the center’s mission -- providing senior government and military decision makers with connected and protected air travel.

The E-4B is a modified Boeing 747-200 that serves the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Air Force fleet of four E-4Bs is stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, NB.

The upgrade completed last week included an extensive programmed depot maintenance refurbishment, ensuring the aircraft received the repairs and system upgrades it needs to operate effectively and meet Federal Aviation Administration safety requirements. The next E-4B scheduled to enter maintenance will receive a full Mod Block upgrade that includes the addition of a Senior Leadership Communications System and improvements to the aircraft’s Global Air Traffic Management System, audio infrastructure, and interior

Should be E-4B tail #73-1677 back in service, the only one of the 4 total that I haven't logged in the past year.

AF-1 is inbound. No orderwire, scanned for one and found AF1>S93 comms on 292.8.
With ATC on 119.85
Been a while since I've heard 136.725 used. Seems like 266.65 is the OW now.

They're are really L/C on 292.8, even under 2000ft. They were scratchy with ADW tower.

1926- SAM-50049 will be the last one in. Now with ZDC 133.55

AE0632 PAT-043 landing at Dulles. If I didn't have to go to work in the morning I'd go by Signature to get a reg. if it hadn't departed.

Not once did I hear it on the radio, only the Dulles and Richmond area PCT controllers talking to it. I had been trying to find it ever since it was at FL230.

Re: PAT 043

Hop,

I might be able to get out there a bit later on, but that "sounds" like a C-23B callsign to me.

I was hearing the Cosmics also on 138.2 up here in Ct.
I didn't know about that 140.175 freq but added it to my lineup. Thanks.
Also, 136.725 is very active right now. Didn't ID the aircraft yet.

I think the 140.175 is fairly new. I'd say the last 3-6 months that I've noticed. I never had that one for the 177th. Almost sounds like an OPS channel since they were giving their ALPHA codes.
I also had a quick few hits on 125.125 around the same time which I have down as MAPLE OPS but missed any IDs.
Also had a C-17A gasing up on 228.0 at 1130 local but missed ID (tail 04-4135)

ton of action down on the Shore on 138.05, NJ ANG; Devil, Smash, Blackjack, taking out various targets. great stuff

Yes lots of activity today for sure. I heard them also up here twice today. Seems as though more exercises are occurring at odd times lately, at night (many on Thurs. night) and now on Saturday. NJ ANG and Mass ANG (Barns) have been lighting up my radio for sure. Tons of AR action too. The sun is starting to set here on the Ct. side of Long Island Sound. Lets see what happens tonight on the East Coast. Keep it going boys!!

Off topic Isle of Man Biz Jets.

Lately have been getting more and more formerly UK Biz Jets over here reg in Isle of Man colors.
Tonight example (43E7FB) M-EMLI a CL60 formerly G-EMLI at FL39k.

Interesting history and looks like tax dodge just like here when many aircraft
register in Delaware etc to avoid sales taxes.
Isle of Man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aircraft Registry - Isle of Man Government DTI
Looks like Reg there is for Biz jets only! •No insurance premium tax (5% in UK)
