1/11:
JOSA 862 (C-21A, unid) - to KHIF
JOSA 648 (C-21A, unid) - pax pickup, 300 gal fuel, parking in hangar; to KRND
NAVY 7N 752 (UC-12B, 161309) - pax pickup
CODY 01 (KC-135R, unid) - to KCHS
NAVY 7N 752 (UC-12B, 161309) - to KADW
REACH 360 (C-17A?, unid) - requesting 120K fuel, parking I2
NAVY RS 824 (C-9B, unid) - to KABQ
REACH 220 (C-130J-30, 07-46311) - called Metro for weather at CYYT, CYQX, CYJT, and CYYR
ARMY 40053 (2x OH-58D, 94-0053, xx-xxxx) - RON, parking on Easy row

I think CODY 01 was a 916th ARW aircraft - the tail flash looked like it was green and yellow (can't say for certain because of the low visibility).

I also forgot to post a conversation from the other day (1/8) that made me laugh:

[JOSA 344 requesting a phone patch to Andrews Maintenance, DSN 857-7226.]
Dispatcher: "Hey JOSA 344, who is this?"
344: "This is a crew out of Andrews Air Force Base."
Dispatcher: "Sir you sounded very familiar; I thought you were one of our old C-21 pilots."
344: "Uh nope, but we are C-21 pilots...half right!"

344 on patch: ETA 2015 local, A2 for air data computer #1, ongoing issue.

Also, does anyone know what a "36-14 line" is? Every night Patterson Dispatch tests frequencies as follows:
"372.2 test for tapes."
"122.85 test for tapes."

Last week, however, I noted a new test broadcast on 122.85:
"36-14 line test for tapes."
They just got a new phone patch system...is that what it references?

Haiti Comms

Guys,

Posting this from the Monitoring Times blog just in case some of you might be interested in Haiti-related HF comms:

Global ALE High Frequency Network (HFN) is now on ALERT for Haiti earthquake Emergency / Disaster Relief Communications (EMCOMM)

====HFLINK SPECIAL BULLETIN==== 13 JAN 2010
Alert: Haiti Earthquake EMCOMM

HFN Pilot Stations are active and ready 24/7 for ALE calling, relay, and internet messages.

All operators are encouraged to participate in the ALE Comm Centre live operator chat room HIGH FREQUENCY NETWORK - COMMUNICATION CENTRE and activate ALE radios on the ALE channels:

HFN net (text/internet/sounding/calling)
3596.0 USB
7102.0 USB
10145.5 USB
14109.0 USB
18106.0 USB
21096.0 USB
24926.0 USB
28146.0 USB

HFL net (emcomm/voice/calling)
3791.0 USB
7185.5 USB
14346.0 USB
18117.5 USB
21437.5 USB
24932.0 USB
28312.5 USB

I'm already hearing HAM ALE on 3596.0 USB

Two other freqs worth checking are 3.720 & 7.045 both USB---being kept "open" in case any HAMs in Haiti can get up and running.

In addition---according to news reports the Coast Guard is supposed to be sending some acft and cutters to the area to check for damage. So 5696.0 8983.0 and the COTHEN net would also be good ones to check.

I see also the famous Fairfax County Rescue squad has been activated.
In the past they have driven their rescue vehicles and dogs over to Dover AFB and loaded
on a C-5 for overseas work.
Is that Hospital ship still stationed in Baltimore? They may want that as well.

Mark,

local news says that they have mobilized the USNS Comfort out of Baltimore but it won't be ready to sail until Monday. News also says that the Carl Vinson is being diverted to Mayport FL to load on a helo sqdn and take them to Haiti. Vinson had been on way back to San Diego from Norfolk

Looks like Fairfax Rescue going out of Dulles.
The team from Fairfax County is expected to arrive Haiti around 3 p.m. from Dulles
The USS Comfort hospital ship, which is now berthed in Baltimore, has begun to recall its crew.

If anyone has HF try 14.265 the SATERN HAM net which is now dedicated to Haiti-related comms.

Here's another piece of info:

Coast Guard ready to respond to Haiti in wake of massive earthquake

MIAMI - Coast Guard officials in Miami have mobilized cutters and aircraft
to positions in close proximity to Haiti to render humanitarian assistance
as needed.

Deployed to the area are:

.The crew of a C-130 Hercules fixed-wing aircraft from Coast Guard Air
Station Clearwater, Fla.
.The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Valiant, a 210-foot reliance class
cutter homeported in Miami.
.The crew of the Coast Guard Cutters Forward, a 270-foot medium endurance
cutters homeported in Portsmouth, Va.
.The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Tahoma, a 270-foot medium endurance
cutter homeported in Portsmouth, N.H.
.The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Mohawk, a 270-foot medium endurance
cutter homeported in Key West, Fla.

Additional Coast Guard assets patrolling the area have been alerted of the
situation and stand by to render assistance as needed.

Some additional tidbits:

MIAMI - U.S. Southern Command will deploy a team of 30 people to Haiti to
support U.S. relief efforts in the aftermath of yesterday's devastating
earthquake.

The team, which includes U.S. military engineers, operational planners, and
a command and control group and communication specialists, will arrive in
Haiti today on two C-130 Hercules aircraft. The team will work with U.S.
Embassy personnel as well as Haitian, United Nations and international
officials to assess the situation and facilitate follow on U.S. military
support.

Other immediate response activities include;

- At first light today, a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter evacuated
four critically injured U.S. Embassy staff to the Naval Station Guantanamo,
Cuba, hospital for further treatment.

- Elements of the U.S. Air Force 1st Special Operations Wing are
deploying today to the international airport at Port au Prince, Haiti, to
provide air traffic control capability and airfield operations. They are
expected to arrive in Haiti this afternoon.

- A U.S. Navy P-3 Orion aircraft from the Forward Operating
Location at Comalapa, El Salvador, took off early this morning to conduct an
aerial reconnaissance of the area affected by the earthquake.

- The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier, USS Carl Vinson, is underway and
expected to arrive off the coast of Haiti Thursday. Additional U.S. Navy
ships are underway to Haiti.

SOUTHCOM is closely monitoring the situation and is working with the U.S.
State Department, United States Agency for International Development and the
Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance and other national and
international agencies to determine how to best respond to this crisis.

SOUTHCOM is well versed at providing humanitarian assistance in the region.
Since 2005, the command has led U.S. military support to 14 major relief
missions, including assistance to Haiti in September 2008. During that
mission, U.S. military forces from USS Kearsarge and other units airlifted
3.3 million pounds of aid to communities that were devastated by a
succession of major storms.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Haitian people and all those
affected by this devastating earthquake," said U.S. Army Col. James
Marshall, command spokesman for SOUTHCOM.
